British Liver Trust response to Government’s plan on childhood obesity

Posted on: 18th August 2016

The British Liver Trust has joined forces with 32 other leading national charities, Medical Royal Colleges, and campaign groups to respond to today’s announcement of the Government’s Plan for Action on childhood obesity.

Andrew Langford, Chief Executive of the British Liver Trust said, "The Western world is facing an epidemic of liver disease and a major cause of this is the rise in obesity. One in five of us are already likely to have the early stages of fatty liver disease and many people are unaware that being overweight is a significant risk factor. The British Liver Trust is disappointed with this ‘watered down’ Government Strategy and along with the other 32 members of the Obesity Health Alliance believes that this is a missed opportunity to tackle the obesity crisis. It represents a blatant disregard for the evidence that exists for far more government legislation and support to tackle obesity - the biggest health threat of our time.”
