Kaye Wragg - Triathlon Tatton Park

Kaye Wragg, probably best known for her regular role as PC Diane Noble in The Bill, has grown up with autoimmune hepatitis. She is helping the British Liver Trust raise awareness of liver disease by competing in the Tatton Park triathlon in September and sharing her story.

In 1988, at the age of 15, Kaye suddenly became ill. What was put down to a persistent stomach bug became complicated by the fact that she had turned yellow. After one mis-diagnosis and multiple bouts of debilitating illness Kaye was finally diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH).

What causes AIH is not well understood, but it is believed that the body’s immune system behaves as though the liver cells are foreign and starts to destroy them.  This leads to chronic hepatitis which, if left untreated, will progress to cirrhosis and eventually liver failure.  Following diagnosis Kaye suffered two further prolonged flare-ups, but fortunately has been well since 1996.

She says: “It saddens me to think that there are hundreds if not thousands of people suffering with liver disease today. I feel a knot of worry that I too will become a sufferer again, it never leaves you…”

"Health is the best asset we can give ourselves. I am now, 36 years old, with post baby body, entering my first triathlon in September this year. I’m not doing it as a race. It's for me, and of course the British Liver Trust. "

"The Trust is fantastic and so worthy of support. So much so that I donated prize money from a game show that myself and John Bowler won as contestants from The Bill. I was so proud to be able to give something back and it gave me a taste of doing other things to help out."

"I'm just starting my 12 week countdown training for the triathlon. It's special in so many ways. It's for me, it's being held where I got married two years ago, and its for a charity that means so much to me, and for those who use and need this network to help them live with their diagnosis."

"I'm hoping I can do well and raise some good funds for a great cause."
