    British Liver Trust funded research

The British Liver Trust has a history of funding research from the outset, and the two most recent Awards, granted in 2008, took the number of projects funded to sixteen and the Trust’s contribution to research to over £1million.  Research is one of the three key aims of the charity alongside support and information. The Trust has always felt that it is important to fund research in order to:

    1. contribute towards the stock of our knowledge about liver disease
    2. give hope to patients and their friends and family
    3. give solace to those who have lost people dear to them
    4. support the UK hepatology community.

Our rigorous application and review process ensures that work we fund is not already being done elsewhere, that the researchers are knowledgeable, skilled and capable of doing what they say they will do, that they understand the research environment within which they are working and that they are working in an institution which is able to support them to deliver their research objectives.

The Trust is a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC). One of the principle aspects of their guidelines is that each member charity operates a process of peer review when giving out research grants. This ensures that we award money for research based on an independently rated assessment of the proposed work by a knowledgeable group of experts.

If you would like to donate some money to help fund further research please contact the fundraising team on 0800 652 7330 or email: fundraising@britishlivertrust.org.uk

“What matters most for scientists is money and facilities. The longstanding cry of the scientific community is that of under-funding. We in medical biology would be in a desperate state if it were not for the medical charities.”

Lewis Wolpert, Professor of Biology as applied to Medicine University College London.
