Real story: Heather's story
| Heather Mann was diagnosed with secondary liver cancer in 2005 at the age of 47.
“I was with my consultant at the Royal Marsden, I recall clearly him saying, ‘We have discovered a small lesion on the liver’. My immediate reaction was one of shock followed by numbness. “
The road ahead was challenging; a whirlwind of scans, assessments and hospital appointments. Heather underwent a liver resection and ‘gruelling’ chemotherapy. |

“Throughout, I valued the caring support of the medical staff at the Royal Marsden. Their professional skill, coupled with their knowledge of medical advances and treatment, was always reassuring and positive. Through all my cancer days the prayers and caring support of my family, church and friends strengthened me enormously.”
Recognising the need for a local liver cancer support group, Heather decided to establish LIVAGAIN, providing support, encouragement and advice in the Southern region. When ill-health prevents people from attending, support takes the form of home visits and telephone conversations.
Now five years since diagnosis, with treatment completed, Heather is keen to show that in spite of such a traumatic experience, hope and a new life can be gained. Heather can be contacted at LIVAGAIN Liver Cancer Support Group info@sechc.org.uk.
