Liver Services in Wales join IQILS accreditation scheme

Posted on: 27th September 2018

All six health boards in Wales with an acute medical intake are now registered with the UK national accreditation scheme for liver services, Improving Quality in Liver Services (IQILS).

The IQILS project, which is led by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and supported by the British Association for the Study of the Liver and the British Society of Gastroenterology, is working alongside the Welsh government’s national liver disease delivery plan to improve care.

The British Liver Trust fully supports the IQILS scheme and believes over time it will drive up standards of care.

The IQILS scheme enables liver services to:

  • Adhere to professional standards of best practice
  • Identify sub-optimal practice so it may be improved
  • Receive independent validation that they satisfy standards of quality.

Liver services who wish to start working towards accreditation should sign up on the RCP website.
