Liverpool centre for alcohol research launches

Posted on: 18th January 2019

The British Liver Trust is delighted to see the launch of the Liverpool Centre for Alcohol Research (LCAR) today.

The new Centre is led by Professor Sir Ian Gilmore, and brings together experts from the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and local NHS trusts through Liverpool Health Partners to work on the advancement of alcohol-related research and education. It will focus on four main areas of research and practice and, crucially, the multidisciplinary synergies between them: liver (and other end organ) diseases; mental health; cancer; and public health and associated policy.

Guests at the launch event included TV and radio presenter Adrian Chiles, who fronted the hard-hitting 2018 BBC documentary Drinkers Like Me, MPs Luciana Berger (Lab, Liverpool Wavertree) and Dame Louise Ellman (Lab, Liverpool Riverside) and Professor Roger Williams CBE, director of the Institute of Hepatology – Foundation for Liver Research.
